November Member Spotlight
Matthew Momjian, EMT
Q. How long have you been in EMS? What is your current position at Marple EMS?
A. I have been an EMT for almost seven years. I am a volunteer member of Marple EMS and serve on the Board of Directors as our Secretary. I also work as a full time EMT and Field Training Officer in Wilmington, Delaware.
Q. What made you become a part of EMS?
A. I got started in my freshman year of college when I got recruited by my college EMS squad (Feanklin & Marshall College EMS). I grew through the ranks there and was at MTAC during my summers off. I have always wanted to be in the medical field.
Q. What is the most rewarding part of your job/position?
A. You get to see and help people in some of their worst moments, and hopefully have a positive impact on them. It also makes for some pretty exciting stories. I have grown a lot as a person by being in EMS, and I feel it makes a person prepared to think on their feet and adapt quickly.
Q. What are your hobbies outside of work?
A. I enjoy video games, programming, the outdoors, shooting, and listening to or playing classical music. During the week I like to work out, attend Bible study, and go to the Philadelphia Orchestra. I consider myself a bit of a foodie but I’ll also eat just about anything!
Q. What is an interesting fact about you that no one may know?
A. I was homeschooled my entire life by my mom, along with my three siblings! Most people seem surprised to hear this, which I suspect is a good thing.
Q.What did you want to do while growing up?
A. I’ve always wanted to be in medicine, and am in the process of applying to medical school. I think it stems from a near-drowning/hospitalization I had at the age of 4.
Q. Tell me about your life…
A. I’ve traveled extensively, having been to over 20 countries and counting. My family is very important to me and I have three younger siblings. I’m also an amateur actor, and have been in many productions at Hedgerow Theatre.
