Our deepest condolences to the Philadelphia Fire Department, family and friends of Lt Matthew LeTourneau who lost his life fighting a fire in the city. Matt was an icon in Delaware County for the Emergency Services and will be missed. Rest In Peace Matt.

Today, Chief Downey received a donation from Service Manager Mike Xavier of Pacifico Marple Ford Lincoln. We thank them for the continued support and for the great service keeping our vehicles in tip top shape.

Q. How long have you been in EMS? What is your current position at Marple EMS?
I’ve been in the field since 2006, but got my EMT certification in 2007. Currently I’m an EMT here at Marple.
Q. What made you become a part of EMS?
I started out as a paratransit driver at TransCare, and after a year of doing that my boss decided one night to give me the EVOC test. Next day I was driving an ambulance. My boss at the time recommended me to get my EMT after I got a commendation for good patient care on my first run.
Q. What is the most rewarding part of your job/position?
I’d like to think I have a pretty decent sense of humor, so the most rewarding thing to me is making a patient smile. If I can do that regardless of how sick they are, I did my job right.
Q. What are your hobbies outside of work?
That’s a pretty tough one. I spread my time around a lot between assisting with a couple of different charities and being involved in the Masonic fraternity. I also have my daughter every weekend, so a lot of my off time is spent with her. In my occasional free time I split between outdoor stuff (hiking, fishing, etc.) and just hanging out with friends. The random times I have to myself I like catching up on my Netflix and playing video games.
Q. What is an interesting fact about you that no one may know?
I confess…. I play Pokemon Go.
Q.What did you want to do while growing up?
My dream was always to join the air force and fly fighter jets – unfortunately I’m too tall for the cockpit….
Q. Tell me about your lifeā¦
That’s a complex question. The short version is, I was born and raised here in Delco. I had my wild streak back in high school, then after that I started driving a truck and traveling the country. I moved to Delaware for a couple of years, where I met my crazy circle of friends, then moved back to Delco, settled down and graduated from DCCC with an associate’s degree. I got involved with EMS while I was at DCCC, and I’ve been doing that ever since. I would have to say the greatest reward I’ve gotten out of life so far has been my daughter – out of all the jobs I’ve had over my life, being a dad is definitely my favorite.
